I just saw that Nova Design had Aladdin 4D for sale on Ebay -- the
entire thing: rights, trademarks, source code, remaning inventory,
etc.

Unfortunately, the minimum asking bid was $35,000 (buy it now for only
$89,000.)

I might be able to spring for $3,500 maybe a tad more, but $35K is a
little out of my league.

There were no bids on the auction.

You have to remember that whomever purchases the source could simply
port to OS of choice. All because they are selling the everything
doesn't mean that the technology couldn't be used elsewhere.

If I could get my hands on it (for the measly $3,500.00 USD that I can
afford) I'd turn it loose as an Open Source project on Sourceforge.

You could always set up a site and ask for help. I'd throw in $100.
Maybe the community could pitch in and buy it.

You never know....maybe they'd take less.

snip..

So does this mean they no longer support amigas?

I bought Aladin 4D and Image FX.
Not all of them before you ask !!

Aladin 4D is over complicated in use. its been sat here on my shelf
now for about 3/4 years and i cant say ive every used it to deo
anything else other than render the space shuttle examples.
:-/

I much rather use Imagine.
Now Image FX is a totaly different kettle of fish.!
That gets used almost every day now. Top Program. Lets hope they keep
it going. Shame Kermit didnt do that much for the V4 upgrade, yet was
asking a silly price for upgrading.

Guess it doesnt help when the media out there forces everyone to go
XP. and closes down the Amiga Mags.

I think that Kermit mentioned Aladdin was sold.

No. Aladdin wasn't originally their product. Nova
bought it from another company. Nova is sticking
with their main package, ImageFX and still supporting it.

ImageFX Studio was just recently released.

Imagine will see continued development once AOS4
is moving. Martin is too busy with AOS4 to work on
Imagine at the moment.

It'd be nice to see LightWave come back home now
that there are more powerful processors under the
hood.

Imagine's interface and Stage/Action editors need a
serious overhaul. I'd like to see the Action editor
modelled after AfterFX with collapsable & scalable
tracks and easily manipulated keyframes. It would
also be great if we could have some kind of nested
containers. The point/face/edge limits need to be
removed and support added for the newer 32bit
object format found in the Windows version.

I started out with 4.0 so I can say how much was different
from previous incarnations. The current version is 4.5,
ImageFX Studio.

With our small market, software & hardware prices are
going to be high. But ImageFX is a bargain compared to
the price of PhotoShop.

If you want to see ImageFX stay afloat, I suggest upgrading
and keep current with the latest versions.

I don't recall off-hand but it is 5.xx
Martin McKenzie was working on the updates & PPC
port before getting his hands full with OS4 development.
Once that dust settles more, he should be back to more
active Imagine development.
